A Few Words of Appreciation to Digital Library Conference Organizers

Last month, I attended the Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (JCDL 2008).1 As usual, it was well worth the time and expense to attend what has become, over the years, one of the premiere broad-topic digital library conferences held each year worldwide.

Among the many benefits of attending such conferences is the opportunity to network in person with others involved with digital libraries in one way or another. The organizers of JCDL 2008 allotted ample time for attendees to meet and greet each other, and to discuss current and planned projects – many of which may result in articles to be disseminated in future issues of D-Lib Magazine.

Sometimes the organizers of conferences only receive feedback about the things that didn't work out with regard to their events. And this type of feedback is important, because it can result in even better planning for future events. However, this month, I'd like to salute those who do so much so well to make conferences like JCDL, the European Conference on Research and Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries (ECDL), the International Conference on Asian Digital Libraries (ICADL), and others the terrific events they are.
